Showers are a luxury when you're used to going without or finding a stream or trekking to the waterfall. I guess the Dharma Initiative were good for something in the end. I went for xx many years satisfied to bathe once a week or so only to turn around and miss regular showers every day or two.

I'm hungry. Did I miss brunch?

Your plate is sitting in the oven. I'll reheat it.

You smell nice. That's new!

You didn't smell like a bed of roses back before we moved in here from what I remember.

Great, I'm starving. Let me eat and then I'll go over my meeting with Jacob.

I'll leave you to it... I have to keep an eye on this Wikipedia entry. This Deathlibrarian individual currently has all the facts of the War of 1812 under siege.

Have fun with that.

This chicken is excellent. Did you make it or did Alex?

Alex is too busy being grounded to cook anything. She got a C in Latin. Again. Impossibilis!

I'm surprised she didn't do better since she's so smart. Doing it to piss you off I assume? And I would have thought being grounded would entail her to be doing house duties.

Yes, ever since I insisted Karl couldn't be her study partner, it's been like this.

And no, being grounded in this case means converting all the dot matrix sector surveillance file logs into the new digital format at Bea's station all day. It should bore her to tears AND give her a negative association with the new technology.

That does sound a little tedious. Good job?

We'll see if she ever dares to fake-flunk a quiz again.

Finish eating, I want to hear what (J) had to say.

What does that genius want?

From: [identity profile]
Hmm, well, I think he wants a triple shift in the Hydra starting immediately.

*starts to text*

Oh, good grief. I can radio Tom later. Anyway. *throws CocoPhone across room, sits at table* *eagerly awaits*

Well, as I said last night, Jacob was very pleased with your cookies. In fact, he wants me to bring some more the next time I have to go out there. But, uh, this is beside the point right now.

No, he's not going to see you yet, he said you have to continue to be patient. He's not feeling too bad with the way things are going as of late, though I think the introduction of the new technology is a little worrisome in that it might be easier for outside forces to find the island. Make sure it's all very secure, Ben, or he won't be pleased and we might just have visitors here that we don't want.

Also, he kind of alluded to the fact that we might not want to be so complacent up here in the barracks and that there may be challenges to come, but of course, he didn't elaborate more than that.

There was no list for you this time, so there's a plus, right?

So. That's all I get. An admonishment about my security efforts, and a vague forewarning about nothing in particular.

From: [identity profile]
Ben. You KNOW this is how it is. Is it ever any different?

Date: 2010-09-25 09:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Of course. Silly me to forget. Nothing ever really changes between people, does it? Even when you think something might change, even when you're given reason to believe that it might, it's all just more wishful thinking.

From: [identity profile]
Ben. I'm sorry I don't have better or even more news for you. I thought I might; he seemed very receptive last night. Then today, nothing.

From: [identity profile]
...Right, well, yes, whatever. I'm used to rejection, after all, nothing new.

I suppose that's all you have to say, then?

Date: 2010-09-25 09:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
There's that passive-aggressive thing again.

And I guess that is all I have to say about the meeting with Jacob, yes. Cookies are good, more combat training needed, protect the damn place from the outside world, etcetera, etcetera.

Date: 2010-09-25 09:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
It's not passive-aggressive, I'm just stating a fact.

I'll clean up your dishes, if you're done.

Date: 2010-09-25 09:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
I can clean them up myself.

Ben, really now. You're the leader of our people. Most of them follow you without question. How can you say that you're used to rejection after all this time?

Date: 2010-09-25 09:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
What, you mean aside from (J)'s treatment of my requests to see him for all these years?

I don't suppose anything else comes to mind?

Date: 2010-09-25 09:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
You know, there have been many people with whom Jacob hasn't spoken. He never spoke to Charles either, despite what he may have told you. You're not the first leader of our people who has been frustrated with his lack of direct communication. Playing messenger gets tiring for me as well, have you ever thought of that? But no, I get it from both sides. The leader complains that Jacob won't speak to them and Jacob refuses to listen to me when I tell him he should speak to any of you directly. sometimesiwonderwhyibotheranymore

Date: 2010-09-25 09:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
I'd much prefer you not have to "play messenger" at all. That's my whole point.

In fact, if he would just appreciate rather than fear the new technology, and actually consider using it, there would be so need to waste your time running back and forth across the Island when you could be spending it here with me instead.

Date: 2010-09-25 10:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
But if I didn't play messenger, I wouldn't have a job, and...

Let's just leave it at that.

Date: 2010-09-25 10:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Richard, I assure you, I could find plenty of other things for you to do.

Date: 2010-09-25 10:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
It's not that I wouldn't have anything to do it's just... nevermind. Can we talk about something else?

Date: 2010-09-25 10:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Well, every time I start to, you seem to fail to notice...

Date: 2010-09-25 10:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
I guess I'm just distracted today.

Maybe we could move on to the next appointment on our agenda?

Date: 2010-09-25 10:28 pm (UTC)

Yes, we could do that. The emergency meeting a week in the making.
